The 41st Vice President of the United States (serving under Ford), Nelson Aldrich Rockefeller (1908-1979), was Governor of New York from 1959 to 1973, a "liberal" Republican. The grandson of Standard Oil's founder John D. Rockefeller, Sr., he was President of the Museum of Modern Art from 1939 to 1958. During his tenure as President of MoMA, the institution became practically a wholly-owned subsidiary of the CIA with its international circulating exhibitions program. [
